Bridge to Nowhere

The Bridge to Nowhere was Heritage Lottery funded art project using the heritage of Burgess Park as inspiration.

Art in the Park was commissioned by Friends of Burgess Park to work with participants from local primary school Michael Faraday and secondary school Walworth Academy.

We created a sculptural relief installation in the underpass of Burgess Park (to remain for two years). The theme of the artwork is based on the sailing barges that used to bring cargoes in and out of the Burgess Park area via the Surrey canal. Cargoes coming in that we represented are bricks, timber (including an alien butterfly from Scandinavia) and shells, which were burnt in the local lime kiln. Cargoes going out from local factories are represented by well-known R.Whites lemonade bottles and bibles form the local bible factory.
